The Goal
Design and build a battery pack that powers the car’s motors for two runs at competition.
Our Design
Our team makes a battery that uses a paste of electrolyte and manganese dioxide as the cathode, a plate of zinc metal as the anode, and a graphite current collector. Between these two layers is a paper towel separator. The battery produces 12 volts and an amperage of 10 amps when made with 8 cells in series and two 8-cell batteries in parallel. The final battery is double contained and reliably powers the car for multiple runs.
